Along with formal education there is a need for making the students aware about other issues like health and nutrition, social discipline, economic distress to name a few. During the lockdown periods, in addition to health and livelihoods, some other issues also got exacerbated. Prominent among them are rise in the cases of domestic violence and child abuse (up to 38% rise worldwide and in India) and rise in the number of child marriages (33% rise in India), among other issues. Education and empowerment are some of the most effective mediums to address these widespread socio economic problems. Students and teachers are part of our vibrant community who are the catalysts of social change in their personal as well as public life. It is a need of the hour to educate and empower them about gender issues.
Jhep Foundation and Samvedana are the two nonprofit organizations that have formed a team to conduct large-scale gender awareness training programs for various stakeholders.
To date, over 1,200 rural area teachers have participated in these training workshops and have provided extremely positive feedback about the need of such discussion, topics covered during the workshop, and the resources provided to continue this dialogue with the students, parents and the surrounding community. This training will continue for a foreseeable future.
We appreciate your support toward this cause so that we can provide this training to teachers and other trainers state-wide and nationwide.
