Gender Awareness and Gender Equality Training Workshops

Along with formal education there is a need for making the students aware about other issues like health and nutrition, social discipline, economic distress to name a few. During the lockdown periods, in addition to health and livelihoods, some other issues also got exacerbated. Prominent among them are rise in the cases of domestic violence and child abuse (up to 38% rise worldwide and in India) and rise in the number of child marriages (33% rise in India), among other issues. Education and empowerment are some of the most effective mediums to address these widespread socio economic problems. Students and teachers are part of our vibrant community who are the catalysts of social change in their personal as well as public life. It is a need of the hour to educate and empower them about gender issues.

Jhep partnered with a Chandigarh based organization “Samvedana” and jointly developed training workshop on Gender Awareness and Gender Equality. Primary and secondary schoolteachers are important catalysts in effectuating most social reforms. Jhep and Samvedana joined hands to train the teachers in rural area schools. We believe that this training will enable schoolteachers to implement the necessary changes toward gender awareness and gender quality through their continuous discussions with their students, students’ parents and surrounding communities.

Over 1,200 teachers have been trained in the second and third quarters of 2021. This training will continue for a foreseeable future.

We appreciate your support toward this cause so that we can provide this training to teachers and other trainers state-wide and nationwide.
