The most recent health survey conducted by an independent agency identified that in the State of Maharashtra more than 50% girls and women of child-bearing age suffer from anaemia. Jhep recruited volunteers to brainstorm ideas and develop simple recipes for nutritional snack items that can be widely made available to rural area school kids, young girls and women. Samples of nutritional ladoos were distributed to local retailers in Pune area for their feedback. A process to obtain approvals from the department of health and department of education will be followed to formally implement such a program in rural and under-privileged area schools as a starting point.
Jhep intends to pursue the nutritional ladoo and nutritional bar initiative and explore ways to make these available at a subsidized rate.
Jhep has partnered with an NGO – Society for Comprehensive Rural Health Program (CRHP) – that has significant expertise and experience in eradicating anaemia from numerous villages in Ahmednagar and surrounding Districts. Jhep will join hands with CRHP in expanding its women’s health initiatives to other parts of Ahmednagar District.
